Learn to Windsurf with Us!
Private and group lessons are cancelled until further notice based on a spike in Covid-19 cases and overcrowding at parks.
Our beginner lesson is a three-hour intensive with all gear provided at a beach that's convenient for you!
We'll do a 1-hour shore session that covers the fundamentals, safety on the water, and some dry-land drills. From there we'll jump in the water to practice your new skills with coaching and feedback as you go. We're convinved there's no better way to get started than this session.
Most students complete this intensive with enough skill to practice in light-wind conditions on their own. Most students will be able to complete the checkout sail at Sail Sand Point to use their rental gear (an amazing resource!).
Excellent lessons are available at:
- Sail Sand Point
An incredible community resource with a great new fleet of Bic Beach boards for easy progression. From May 26th to August 25th they offer Tuesday evening intensive classes. Once certified you can drop in for the Wednesday supervised self-learning sessions! In the late summer these Wednesday nights have been overlapping with the local City League races where you can meet all the great local windsurfers.
- Mount Baker Rowing and Sailing Center
These programs are closer to the south end of the lake and are offered by Seattle Parks & Rec. They are a great value and you'll get 3 evening lessons in the package.
- Washington Yacht Club
For University of Washington students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Did you know you have an amazing sailing club right behind Husky Stadium? Make sure to sign up for the club and immediately email the windsurfing chief to let them know you're interested in lessons. This will help them gauge interest in the lessons and find instructors - which are all volunteer. They have a great variety of equipment you can use once you're checked out.
- Boeing Windsurf Club
You'll need to ask around to connect with the officers for this Boeing Club. They offer an amazing deal on intro lessons in the summer for Boeing employees (and, yes, interns!).
